The tuning pegs are the four pegs (two on the left and two on the right) found just below the scroll. Four pegs for each violin string; the lower strings G and D on the two left pegs, and the A and E on the two right pegs. Each peg has a small needle-hole at the tip where its respective violin string is inserted for winding.Â

When there are major tuning adjustments to be made, it is the tuning pegs that are wound. Violin players are very careful not to dislodge these pegs as even just a slight maladjustment can cause major differences (seconds or thirds even) in pitch and tuning.Â
